Dataset: Western Tigray in 108 historical and 21 ethno-linguistic maps (1607-2009) (version 3)

Post by africangear »

Ten additional maps of northern Ethiopia have been uncovered by Professor Jan Nyssen and his team at the Department of Geography at Ghent University, so that a new version of the dataset could be published: Western Tigray in 108 historical and 21 ethno-linguistic maps (1607-2009) (version 3). You may consult it at: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.6554937

The additional maps confirm the earlier findings of the meta-analysis: Welkait and surrounding districts were not “always”, but only “occasionally” part of Amhara. The 20th C. language maps show that the Tigrinya-speaking area extends from the Rift Valley escarpment westward, across Tekeze River up to the Sudanese border.
