Reuters’ article entitled ‘Tigray forces killed 120 civilians in a village in Amhara region - Ethiopia officials’ published on September 8, 2021 accuses Tigrayn forces of massacring civilians at Dabat on the 1st and 2nd September solely on the basis of fabricated allegation by the Amhara regional government, an entity responsible for horrific acts of mass murder, sexual violence and ethnic cleansing in western Tigray, as Reuters has extensively documented.
As is noted in the piece, our forces have no previously reported history of targeting civilians. We categorically reject claims of our forces involvement in the killing of civilians. We reiterate our call for an independent investigation into all atrocities, and our willingness to facilitate media access to areas under our control for independent verification of any allegations. We maintain, however, that uncorroborated allegations do not constitute fact.
