Olusegun Obasanjo reports progress on talks between the government of Tigray and Ethiopian government

The African Union special envoy Olusegun Obasanjo has met Debretsion Gebremichael, the president of the Tigray region, in Mekelle. The meeting comes amid fresh fighting between the Tigray defense forces and the invading Eritrean forces in northern Tigray. Speaking to Paul Bakibinga, Olusegun Obasanjo described the talks between the government of Tigray and the Ethiopian government as making progress "very slowly but steadily".

- we are making progress very slowly but steadily,
- the situation today is better than 6 months ago,
- we are working to increase confidence building measures,
- current humanitarian ceasefire should move to negotiated ceasefire then to formal declaration of hostilities,
- restore electricity, water & bank services to Tigray
