On Monday, a Sudanese newspaper reported that the Ethiopian and Sudanese armies had gathered near two border areas.

The "Sudan Tribune" newspaper reported on Ethiopian and Sudanese crowds in Al-Dima and Hamdait, both in the Sudanese state of Kassala.

The newspaper quoted informed sources in the governments of the states of Gedaref and Kassala that the stationing of Ethiopian and Eritrean forces on the borders heralds tensions with the Sudanese forces.

The deployment of Ethiopian and Eritrean reinforcements has reduced the number of refugees fleeing the Tigray region of Ethiopia to refugee camps in the states of Gedaref and Kassala to less than a hundred refugees per day.

On Sunday, the Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the rejection of the recent Ethiopian claims and its denial of the 1902 agreement, under the pretext that it took place in colonial times, as Ethiopia was not occupied at the time, and it is also using the same internationally agreed maps to define its borders with Eritrea, while refusing to adopt it to demarcate its borders with Sudan.

On Sunday, Omar Qamar El Din Ismail, the Sudanese Minister of Foreign Affairs in charge, met with the European Union delegation headed by Pekka Haavisto, the European Special Envoy and the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Finland, to consult on the tension between Sudan and Ethiopia, as Haavisto was assigned by Joseph Borrell, Commissioner for Foreign and Security Policy in The European Union is visiting Sudan and Ethiopia as a special envoy of the European Union, to help ease tension between the two countries.

The Sudanese minister affirmed Sudan’s commitment to the United Nations Charter and the adoption of maps inherited from colonial rule, and its belief in constructive dialogue as an ideal means to resolve disputes in a peaceful and friendly manner.

In conclusion, the minister appreciated the support and partnership of the European Union to Sudan, and renewed his confidence in him as a mediator capable of resolving the issue between the two countries.
