It has been ten months since the start of Ethiopia’s genocidal war on Tigray and Tigrayans. Throughout these ten months Tigrayans have persevered through all kinds of attacks aimed at decimating them as a people. Tigrayans on their part have stood in unison and have been fighting tooth and nail to insure their survival as people. As part of their struggle against the genocide Tigrayans from inside Tigray and all over the world have been calling for action from the international community to stop the ongoing full fledged genocide in Tigray.
However, with great sorrow, we have witnessed to this date that the international community is unwilling and incapable of stopping the ongoing genocide.
One of the multifarious tactics of genocide in Tigray has been starving the people of Tigray to death by blocking aid from reaching Tigray. At this moment in time, this tactic seems to have succeeded while the world is watching. Now, 6.5 million people, the entire population of Tigray, are at the verge of a man made mass starvation. As we speak, famine related deaths are becoming daily occurrence as a result of the blockade of aid and life saving supplies by the forces of genocide.
We the abovementioned parties in Tigray, have been calling for a concerted action from the international community to stop the genocide in Tigray. While doing this, it was our hope that the international community will live up to its responsibility to safeguard human rights. So far, we have not seen any thing that keeps our hope alive. Despite this, we still want to stick to our hope that the international community will act, at least now, since things have become starkly clear and a human catastrophe due to a manmade famine is already taking place. Thus, here again, we call up on the international community to use any means possible to insure life saving aid reaches the people of Tigray in earnest. We are afraid that failure to act now will be tantamount to cooperation with the forces of genocide and facilitating a catastrophic humanitarian calamity never seen since the Second World War.
